TYPES OF PROTECTION OF SKI AND SNOWBOARD

As we have seen in previous post, skiing is a sport that falls are very common, since we descend at high speed on a slippery surface where is relatively easy to lose balance.
It is likely that in most of the falls we do not suffer any injury, but this will not always be so. In many lesions that produce us in this sport, it´s not possible to be protected, like in the injuries that are produced by violent movements that cause rips and tears both from bones and ligaments, but we can avoid injuries occur because of a trauma, using the protections that provide us security..
Here I show some of the essential protections for both ski and snowboard.

Helmet: This is the most important protective accessory, both skiing and snowboarding. The helmet can save your life in case of a head impact against any surface (rocks, snow, trees ...) .With its use the reduction of head injuries is very high, being able to avoid up to 60% of injuries in cranial area. As most media event we know the case of the World Champion Michael Schumacher, who saved the life thanks to it.

Back Protector: In order of priority as I have stated, this would be the second most important protection. When we use a back protection we will reduce the risk of injury of the vertebral column by trauma, either by falling or accidental situations that may occur in the pistes, like the impact may suffer by another skier after we have fallen. Furthermore, like the helmet, it not detract movement and even protect us from the cold. Valid for skiing and snowboarding.

Short protection: This pant is reinforced both its back and front. It is designed to ensure comfort and prevent injury skier in buttocks, tailbone and hips. It is recommended for both skiers and snowboarders, but is particularly important for the latter, since it coccyx injures are more common.

Knee pads and wrist guards: These protections are designed for snowboarders, becauseit is very difficult for skiers receive a direct hit on the knee and wear a wrist guard can be uncomfortable when holding the sticks. However, in snowboard, the hands and knees impact is continuous, especially in the learning stages, so it is highly recommended to use these protections.

  1. I always use the helmet, back protector and short protection, and although fortunately

the pant has not yet had the opportunity to protect me, the back protector and helmet

have avoided me any serious injuries.
